Welcome to Greenwood Film Society's Forum! Here you will find general information about the club, its purpose, and the activities and meetings we hold every quarter.
About Us:
Greenwood Film Society was founded back in 1994 and has been going strong at the University of California, Riverside ever since. Greenwood's name comes from our founder's favorite anime, "Koko Wa Greenwood" or "Here is Greenwood," a hilarious OVA series about an incoming high school freshman, Hasukawa Kazuya, who unfortunately(?) moves into a dorm with some very eccentric characters.
Purpose:
Greenwood's main purpose is to share our enjoyment of and enthusiasm for Japanese animation with new and old fans alike. We want Greenwood to be a place where people can come to connect and befriend other local anime and/or manga fans! Finally, we also hope that those attending may gain some knowledge of and appreciation for the Japanese language and culture.
Meetings and Activities:
Primarily, we have weekly meetings to screen selected anime series, movies and OAVs. Admission is always free and open to UCR and non-UCR students alike! Greenwood also hosts various activities every quarter to engage club members in group activities. One of our most notable is the annual Halloween Cosplay Contest, where we encourage clubgoers to come dressed up as their favorite anime or manga characters and award prizes to the winners. We also host quarterly potlucks and arrange group shopping trips out to the LA area to indulge everyone's inner otaku. Other activities we've hosted have included video gaming and CCG nights.
Location and Meeting Dates:
We hold weekly meetings every Friday night during the fall, winter and spring quarters. Our meeting room is Watkins 2240, which is on the second floor in the southernmost wing of the building. To view our campus location, click here. Watkins Hall is location 354, and is directly southwest of the Bell Tower.
For directions to campus if you are a non-UCR student, please click here.
If you have any questions, comments, and suggestions, please share them with us via the forum. Greenwood wants to hear feedback from its members so we can make the club even better!
