Hello everyone! Trust me to find out about Greenwood right after everything's done for the year, but better late than never, I suppose? I've just moved to Riverside, and will be at UCR this fall. Definitely looking forward to what you'll be screening, and meeting everyone in person.
Three random anime-related things about me, by way of introduction:
(1) For a while I ran the anime lending library at my previous school. Digging through the archives I found a VCR fansub of "Ear of the Golden Dragon," and watched the first half hour. Scarred me for life it did.
(2) My first encounter with anime was as a kid watching SDF Macross dubbed in Mandarin, so it was awesome to watch the franchise come back to life with Frontier. "Ikinokoritai, mada ikitetai..."
(3) I am a big fan of Maaya Sakamoto. Yes.
Cheers!

Greetings! Better late than never indeed, we'll be looking forward to seeing all the new club members come next year. What school did you previously attend?
Hm, I've never heard of "Ear of the Golden Dragon" but after reading a review of it online I'll consider myself lucky. Maaya Sakamoto is also a pretty good VA if I remember correctly, I think she has been in a lot of stuff.

I was previously at a school out on the east coast, far far away, eh-heh...
I haven't met anyone who's actually seen all of Ear of the Golden Dragon, but you're right, there are reviews of it on the Web, and they all agree it's pretty awful.
Yup, Maaya Sakamoto was Hitomi in Escaflowne, and Haruhi in Ouran, and more recently Crona in Soul Reaper, and a bunch of other characters too. She's also an excellent vocalist, especially when she does songs by Yoko Kanno.
I see that the society's screening Excel Saga in the fall, which is great. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing that wacky anime again.
Are most of the club members and people who attend the screenings UCR students?

I'm not sure of the ratio of students to non-students at club so someone else will have to answer that question for you.

Well, the ratio of students to non-students varies depending on where you are at the meeting
Inside ratio : 10:1
Ouside ratio : 1:10
You're welcome anywhere... Though it is hard to watch things outside the room, but it's hard to watch things from one side of the door.

Lol, Ear of the Golden Dragon? Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time, a long time. Evan back in the day it was notorious... I'm sorry you had to uncover that little "gem." Anyhoo, welcome to Greenwood! I do hope you'll be able to join us for our first meeting! ^_^

Glad to hear from everyone. I'm looking forward to the first meeting on Friday (although you might find that this "meat" is not very fresh, not at all...).

Well, I guess the beginning of a new quarter is as good a time as any to say goodbye. I'm moving to the city of angels, so even though I'll still be working at UCR, I won't be around for the screenings any more. It was fun, and I wish you all the best for the spring and the summer. I might see some of you at AX!
