Galactapuss Mistaken For...

I deal with the public *a lot.* I do a lot of door-to-door work and I have to wear a suit all the time. In the 6 years i've been doing this job i've been mistaken for a number of different kinds of people. I've been accused of being...

...a salesman.

...a missionary.

...mafia.

Today I got a new one. I was accused of being... the President of the United States.

Granted, it was a 3 year old kid in the shopping cart in front of me at the supermarket. I don't think he'd ever seen anyone in a suit before. He asked me 'are you the president?' I told him 'no, the president looks a little different than me.' His mom smiled and continued unloading the cart. I didn't say anything else.

However

Certain that the kid's mom had never heard of the movie, it was all I could do to stop myself from saying 'they dyed me this color!'

Background checks. Ask your neighbors and friends if you drink, do drugs, etc..

do people actually admit to this stuff when you are at their door?

Most of the time there isn't anything to admit to begin with, but when there is people are usually happy to talk. But the only way for that to not be the case is for me to know they know something and then for them not to tell me. You're getting a job and you tell me about that bank you robbed with dreamer. I go to the court and I get a print of that case. I go to the police and get a copy of that police record. Then I go talk to dreamer. I already know you and dreamer robbed a bank. But if dreamer says you've never been arrested, I just move right on to the next question.

The weird part isn't people admitting stuff. The weird part is that almost everyone invites me inside. Either I look the part, or I have a good intro spiel, or something, but they almost always do.

and this is all in riverside county? how did you even get into that line of work?

Nation-wide, though my part is usually San Bernardino and Riverside counties only. As for getting into this line of work, I was looking at just the right time. They hired me because their software is ancient and they figured I wouldn't be afraid of it.

Well thats understandable to be mistaken for those things (maybe not the president)! And of course I might take bribes!
