Panel 4: Gaburi (chomp) *Wan is one of the Japanese sounds for a dog's bark; hence, dog's are cutely known as Wanchan. The dawan at the end is the announcer's word play on combining dawa--a common ending to informal sentences--with wan, making dawan

One year at AX there was a 4 pannel comic contest. And a lot of newpaper comics are in this style (horizontally). So its pretty common. >_> <_<
