<3 I went in 2010 and it was fantastic and so I'm going again this year~ I'd recommend you go if you like small-mid sized cons~ Rules there are pretty lax (as in I got into the 2AM dance/rave despite the fact I was underage) and people are pretty chill~ <3 Anyway, is anyone else going or am I going to be a loner~? ^^; I'm not sure how much tickets are now, but when I bought mine, the 3 day pass was 40. Single day passes are, obviously, cheaper <33 www.animelosangeles.org/wp/2010/welcome-to-anime-los-angeles-2011/And there's the link if you want it~~~ Hopefully I see at least one of you guys there~ <3

How was the whole event? Did they have anything interesting for sale at the booths like imported Japanese games. Did they have any Video Game competitions? Did the booths feel overpriced? This year I attended AX 2010 and I had a blast. Is this event anything like AX 2010?

The con is far smaller than AX. It takes place in a hotel lobby. The AA and the Dealer's halls are, thus, much smaller than the ones at AX. I think ALA has more of a focus on anime trinkets and figurines. I bought this pimping bag from ALA, really stylish. I mean, ratio wise, a lot of the dealer's hall had a cosplay-centric focus. I didn't see many, if any game retailers there. that might be exclusively AX territory.
The booths, though, were generally nicely priced and even though some vendors were pretty stuffy, you could haggle prices down which was nice. c:
And, yeah, they had their own video game hall so you can go down there and host your own competition though I don't think the actual con sponsored one itself.

I went last year and got a longcat scarf. It was very small so it's a lot more personal.
It'll be the first weekend after class starts again in January I believe. So on/around our first meeting.
But I heard just the saturday pass this year is 35$, which sounds like a load of BS. I dont even think AX saturday passes are that much.

$35 for one Saturday? If memory serves correct, AX offered a 4-day pass for $45.

Well it seems prices have changed in the past couple years. When AX was in long beach it was still 25$. And for Ax the price varies on when you buy your ticket, like until september the 4 day passes are 45$.

Well, a lot has changed since then... Prices in general have gone way up. I know I bought my 3-day ticket for maybe $35-40 but that was only because I booked earlier. The late fees are always a killer, but what can you do? Either way, I thought ALA was well worth the expense, but that really depends on why you go to the con in the first place. My main focus was cosplaying/socializing so it was /way/ nicer than what I'd seen at AX, but if you're looking exclusively for merchandise, ALA probably isn't the convention for you. :c

I would go to all of these if I had more money and a car...

I think I go for a combination of photography and merchandise. But yeah, if you were only into the merch, going to AX on days 1 (exclusive items) and 4 (discounts) would be the golden ticket of cons. Too bad they dont sell the exhibition hall pass anymore or that would have been an even greater deal.
Comparatively though, I think ALA has most of the things AX has, just on a fractional scale.

I usually go to AX to meet the directors, singers, artist, or voice actors. Or simply, important people who created our stuff. AX 2010 I got like 10+ signatures of people who I appreciate.
