Since this board looked pathetic with nothing posted here I thought I'd start something asking what classes people are taking this quarter, since I always forget that many of us are still students as well as anime lovers.
As for me, I'm a 4th-year creative writing major so most of my classes consist of reading and writing.
I've got a science fiction class that explores "science fiction that feature alien beings and artificial persons, focusing on how these images serve as metaphors for human social identities" (as the syllabus puts it). Since this is an upper division English class, I'll be reading nine (yes, nine) novels and eight short stories plus a couple of essays for this one...
Next up is third-quarter Japanese, because they're making me learn a language so I figured I might as well explore my inner Asian.
In addition to all those pretty sci-fi novels, I've got another fiction class focusing on "The Novel in Stories". Essentially, I'll be reading novels made of interconnected short stories (think cowboy bebop and you'll get a general idea). Four more novels for this class, with an essay due for each of them.
And last but not least, a screenwriting workshop, where I'll learn the basics of writing a screenplay and then articulate an opening for one by the time the quarter is done.
So with all that said, how's your quarter (or semester, if you go to a different school) shaping up?

Well, I'm a 3rd year Creative Writing major though please don't judge me by my writing since I like to screw around alot. Only three classes this quarter, all lower division non-fiction. While two of them are fulfilling Breadth requirements, the third is to see if I want to focus on non-fiction or fiction. Ah well, never expected to graduate in four years anyway. I want a CRWT-186C class or something (Book arts)

Hey, I'm also a Creative Writing major. I just transferred to UCR from Victor Valley Community so I'm kinda stuck with lover division classes. These include CRWT 057B, Intro to Poetry, which is ok, but I'm really more of a fiction girl. I'm also taking Intro to British Literary Tradition, and while it's not covered by my major I love Brit Lit, so it really works out. Lastly, I'm taking Oceanography which doesn't have ANYTHING to do with anything else I'm doing, but since I just transferred I got the short end of the stick while picking classes. Though, I am actually interested in Oceanography. Usagi Akemi Kuusou Chidori Shigure Utami Imeka Ohkami aka Amanda

I've got my whole year planned out...Basically all science and nuts. I'm a psych CHASS major and I'm required to take ALL of these classes (except maybe Italian). I'm required by my major to take Psych 11 before my junior year...I hear the class sucks, its all statistics and writing papers. I hate writing.
Fall: Psych 1 Biology 5A Physics 2B Chem 112A
Winter: Math 9C Biology 5B Physics 2C Chem 112B
Spring: Psych 11 (f**k me, this class is going to suck) Italian 1 Biology 5C Chem 112C

I, Robot, by Issac Asimov Is a good example of a novel comprised of short stories. I loved it too. The three laws were a great way to create interesting stories as well as provide a big difference between humans and robots.

The three laws were a great way to create interesting stories as well as provide a big difference between humans and robots. Coincidentally I had to read that for my science fiction class. Great book. It falls under what we call a "Fix-up", which is a bunch of stories that weren't originally supposed to form a larger story but were later 'fixed-up' so that they seemed like one. There wasn't really a market for science fiction novels when he wrote the stories originally so to begin with he published them individually in a pulp magazine. It's a bit off the main topic but there you go .

So this guy named H.M. contributed most of what we know about memory for the past 60 years. He had his hippocampus ablated (destroyed) 60 years ago to help his epilepsy. His epilesy went away, but he was no longer able to store new memory into his long term memory bank. Similar to the girl in the movie 50 First Dates. Well he died last year and now they're cutting up his brain to do more research on how we store memory. The process has being going on all day, it'll be continuing sometime into the night too.
